Plaza
III Makes Donation to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation
Jacksonville, FL (May 4, 2005) Plaza III, The Steakhouse is presenting the
North Florida Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with a $4,000 donation during an event at the fine
dining restaurant tonight at 6 p.m.
When Plaza III opened Dec. 30 at the
Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront Hotel, owner J. Bard McLean committed to donate a portion of restaurant revenues in
January and February to the foundation.
"The son of our general manager,
Rob Mosco, suffers from the disease, which made us more aware of the impact diabetes has on children," McLean said. "We
decided that we wanted to raise funds to support the foundation's work in Jacksonville."
JDRF Board Chairman Eric Johnson and JDRF board members, along with corporate team leads
involved in the JDRF "Walk to Cure Diabetes" on April 8, are attending the event.
JDRF,
the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide, was founded in 1970 by the parents
of children with juvenile diabetes. The disease strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and
carries the constant threat of devastating complications.
The CDC estimates that
one out of three children will be diagnosed with diabetes. There are more than 730 cases in North Florida
and surrounding areas. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $900 million in direct funding to diabetes
research. More than 85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF's
mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. For more information,
visit the JDRF web site at http://www.jdrf.org/ or call 739-2101.
